Spring Cleaning: Mental Health Edition




Spring has arrived, and this is your friendly reminder that it’s never too late to reassess what’s working and what isn’t when it comes to your mental health. Here are five questions to help you reflect and gain clarity:

  1. On a scale of 1-10, how satisfied are you with how you feel?If you’re not a 10 (and kudos if you are!), ask yourself: what is ONE thing you can do to improve that score? This can be a small action you’ve stopped doing due to life’s demands, but that would benefit your well-being.

  2. If you weren’t worried about others’ reactions, what would you be doing—and what would you not be doing?Consider the commitments you feel obligated to keep, even when you don’t want to. What would you prefer to be doing instead? While big changes might not be necessary, even small adjustments can make a difference. And yes, life responsibilities like bills and work matter, but within that, where can you make small shifts?

  3. What do you worry about most—and can you change it?

    Many of the things we worry about involve people and situations beyond our control. While we understand this on a logical level, our minds still dwell on them. This is a common experience, but this time, try to acknowledge the frustration of not being able to control the uncontrollable, and then refocus on what you CAN control (HINT: your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors).

  4. In what ways do you feel supported?This question is crucial because it prompts you to think about your support system and recognize what you need in different situations. It’s hard to communicate your needs if you’re unclear about them yourself. Reflecting on this will help you better articulate your needs when someone offers support.

  5. When do you feel most relaxed?Who are you with, what are you doing, and how do you feel in those moments? Mental health is often associated with challenges, but it’s equally important to identify and maintain what’s working well for you. If you already have things in place that make you feel good, give yourself credit and keep those positive practices going.
